Since the onset of online shopping, and for direct mail retailers before that, the proverbial “last mile” has been a basic challenge. When customers shop in person, they bring their purchases home with them.  The retailer effectively outsources the last mile, taking a free ride with the customer. Online shopping requires another service making a dedicated trip to the customer’s home.
