Amazon launched the first Echo in November 2014. It was priced at well over $100, though discounted for Prime members who were willing to give the mysterious device a try. At the time, neither Amazon nor consumers knew how they would be used. In those early days, CIRP surveyed Amazon customers to see if they had even heard of Echos and Alexa. The market has matured and now CIRP asks Echo owners how many units they have in their homes.
